What to Wear in Mallorca: A Shopping Guide for American Women Visiting the Mediterranean

Blame it on the new direct flight from Newark to Palma. Blame it on TikTok revealing every beach club, boutique hotel and hidden cove. Whatever the reason, I've noticed a serious increase in American accents when I'm down in Mallorca.
Recently at Gran Folies (the most chic beach club on the island), a group of American women in their late 50s and 60s were tendered ashore from their boat for lunch. Most were dressed in that practical, no-nonsense American way, perfectly suitable for a hike, less so for a long lunch at one of the island's chicest beach clubs.
But one woman stood out.
She wasn't overly dressed up. No designer logos. No obvious effort. Just a breezy cotton shirt dress, cute shoes, and that elusive thing every stylish woman is chasing: looking exactly right for where she was.
Naturally, I asked about the shoes.
J.Crew!
Which it got me thinking.
If an American woman only had access to her local mall before heading off to the Med this summer, what would I pull for her? If I had three hours and only a J.Crew, Madewell, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's to work with, what would I grab?
What Americans Get Wrong About Mallorca Style
The biggest mistake isn't bringing the wrong brands. It's bringing the wrong mindset.
Many American women pack for Mallorca as if they're heading to a 5 star resort in Mexico where the walk to the pool is their runway or a weekend at the lake.
The result is a suitcase full of activewear, logo-heavy pieces, and outfits that feel disconnected from the slower, more relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle.
Mallorca style isn't about being super dressed up.
It's about dressing appropriately.
Natural fabrics. Comfortable shoes. Easy silhouettes.
What Women Actually Wear in Mallorca
After nearly 10 years of traveling to Mallorca and now being a home owner there, there are a few things I consistently see stylish women wearing:
Cotton poplin dresses
Linen trousers/sets
Relaxed button-down shirts
Leather sandals
Basket bags
Simple gold jewelry mixed in with fun statement summery peices (spanish brands do this really well).
Sunglasses with personality
You'll never see athleisure outside of the gym (not even to wear down to hotel breakfast).
You'll see very few obvious designer logos.
You'll see women who look polished without looking like they tried too hard. Ok, maybe you will spot an influencer dolled up for a photoshoot but it will look out of place. lol.
I've pulled over 30 items, from U.S. mall brands (or brands that can be found at the mall) to help pack your trip… from Mallorca to Tahoe. As a “euro summer” is just a state of mind ;)
For hotel lounging and slow lunches by the pool...
For beach club days...
And dinner in Palma.\
